Risk & Compliance Lead

About the role

Wave is building financial services that work for everyone across Africa. As the Risk & Compliance Lead, you will ensure operational integrity and support the growth of our business in Niger by overseeing risk, compliance, and audit activities.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain all compliance and risk‑related policies, procedures, and controls.
• Act as the country’s risk & compliance point of contact, advising leadership and reporting to the board.
• Identify and evaluate operational risks in coordination with functional teams.
• Monitor implementation of basic compliance requirements such as KYC and agent/merchant onboarding controls.
• Participate in incident reviews and follow‑up on remediation actions.
• Support AML and CFT investigations, including submission of Suspicious Transaction Reports to the Central Bank through partner banks.
• Prepare periodic and ad‑hoc compliance reports for regulatory agencies.
• Supervise and coordinate field audit activities, including agent audits, spot checks, and reconciliations.
• Manage relationships with partner banks, the Central Bank (BCEAO), and other stakeholders.

Required profile

• Proven experience in risk and compliance functions, preferably within financial services.
• Strong knowledge of KYC, AML, and CFT regulations.
• Ability to work closely with central banks and partner institutions.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
