WASH Specialist – Maradi, Niger

About the role
The WASH Specialist will support the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of UNICEF's Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programme in Maradi, Niger. Reporting to the Chief Field Office and Chief of WASH, the role ensures technical guidance and management support to achieve programme results.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and plan WASH programmes aligned with country strategies.
- Manage programme delivery, monitor progress and ensure results are achieved.
- Provide technical and operational support for implementation activities.
- Lead humanitarian WASH preparedness, response and recovery efforts.
- Build networks and partnerships with stakeholders.
- Promote innovation, knowledge management and capacity building within the WASH sector.
Required profile
- Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent) in public health, social sciences, behavior change communication, sanitary engineering or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in WASH programmes for developing countries.
- At least one year of deployment in a developing country and a three‑month humanitarian deployment with UN, government or INGO.
Required skills
- Rural water supply for low‑ and middle‑income countries, including water safety and sustainability.
- Rural sanitation for low‑ and middle‑income countries, applying CATS principles.
- Urban sanitation for low‑ and middle‑income countries, focusing on sustainability.
- Handwashing with soap promotion.
- WASH‑in‑Schools and health centre implementation.
- Menstrual hygiene management.
- National government WASH policies, plans and strategies.
- Analysis of national budgets and expenditure for basic WASH and related advocacy.
- Humanitarian WASH preparedness.
- Humanitarian WASH response and recovery.
