Emergency Specialist (Resilience Coordinator)

About the role

The Resilience Coordinator will support UNICEF’s mission in Niger by designing, implementing and monitoring community resilience programmes that protect children and women from disasters and shocks.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement community‑based resilience interventions.
• Lead capacity‑building initiatives for partners and local stakeholders.
• Conduct risk and vulnerability assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical assistance on DRR, climate adaptation and peacebuilding.
• Represent UNICEF in technical, managerial and strategic meetings with UN agencies, donors, government officials and other partners.
• Coordinate monitoring, evaluation and reporting of resilience activities.
• Foster partnerships and communication with stakeholders at central and decentralized levels.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in social sciences, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation or related fields.
• Minimum 5 years progressive experience in resilience, DRR, emergency preparedness, peacebuilding or post‑disaster recovery.
• Demonstrated field experience in complex, high‑risk or conflict‑affected environments.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of resilience, DRR, climate change adaptation and peacebuilding concepts.
• Ability to coordinate multi‑sectoral, inter‑agency programmes.
• Excellent analytical capacity and ability to translate complex concepts into operational actions.
• Proven ability to build effective relationships in multicultural, fast‑paced settings.
