Assistant Controller

About the role

We are looking for a finance professional to develop and maintain an effective financial and accounting unit as we scale our business in Niger. The role involves representing the finance function, ensuring compliance, and leading the finance team.

Key responsibilities

• Represent the Finance unit towards external stakeholders.
• Review and monitor company financial transactions.
• Ensure compliance with financial, legal, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accounting controls by preparing and recommending policies and procedures.
• Manage the external auditor relationship and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
• Oversee the Finance team, including recruitment, training, mentoring, and development.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to design new products from accounting and tax perspectives.
• Lead by living Wave’s values and embed them within the team.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in auditing, accounting, or corporate finance.
• Proven experience with financial reporting requirements and regulatory frameworks in Niger.
• Track record of successfully managing statutory tax audits.
• Full professional fluency in French and English.
• Strong analytical, critical‑thinking and problem‑solving abilities.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and leadership skills.
• Ability to maintain the highest standards of integrity and deliver results under pressure.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Prior experience at a reputable external audit firm is a distinct advantage.
