Consultant to support implementation of ECA/SRO West Africa programme

About the role

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) Sub‑Regional Office in Niamey is seeking a consultant to support the implementation of its West Africa programme. The role focuses on strengthening economic diversification, value‑chain development, macro‑economic stability and intra‑African trade.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare assessments of regional and national value chains and the associated policy frameworks to advance diversification and industrialisation in West Africa.
• Collect and analyse economic data to support policy formulation on emerging issues such as debt management, domestic resource mobilisation, SDGs and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
• Deliver two critical value‑chain assessments and provide data‑driven inputs for priority projects on debt management and AfCFTA implementation.
• Perform additional tasks as requested by the Director of the Sub‑Regional Office.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or higher in economics, statistics, international development or a related field.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in sustainable development, economic research, macro‑economic modelling, policy formulation, project management and evaluation.
• Proven experience in value‑chain analysis, economic diversification and strategic report writing.
• Fluency in English or French; knowledge of an additional UN language is desirable.
