Humanitarian Operations Technical Advisor I (Remote, West Africa)

About the role

Catholic Relief Services is seeking a Humanitarian Operations Technical Advisor I to provide rapid, deployable technical and operational support for emergency responses across several West African countries. The role is remote‑based, covering Niger, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Cameroon, Benin and Togo, and focuses on strengthening supply‑chain functions, procurement, logistics and the establishment of emergency sub‑offices.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver in‑country surge support during humanitarian emergencies, applying expertise in procurement, logistics and supply‑chain processes.
• Assist with planning, implementation and close‑out of emergency operations, ensuring compliance with CRS standards and donor requirements.
• Support the set‑up and strengthening of emergency sub‑offices, coordinating with HR, finance, security, ICT and fleet management teams.
• Provide remote and onsite technical assistance to country programmes and partners, fostering operational learning and capacity building.
• Contribute to the development and dissemination of operational guidance and best‑practice documentation.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in humanitarian emergency operations, preferably with a focus on supply‑chain management.
• Demonstrated ability to work in complex, resource‑constrained environments and to adapt quickly to evolving contexts.
• Strong understanding of donor compliance, procurement regulations and logistics standards.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills across multidisciplinary teams.
