WASH Specialist (NO‑C) – Fixed Term – Maradi, Niger

About the role

The WASH Specialist will support UNICEF’s country programme in Niger by leading the design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of water, sanitation and hygiene interventions. Reporting to the Chief Field Office and Chief of WASH, the role provides technical guidance and management support to achieve programme results.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and plan WASH programmes aligned with national strategies.
• Manage programme delivery, monitor progress and ensure results are achieved.
• Provide technical and operational support for field implementation.
• Lead humanitarian WASH preparedness and response activities.
• Build partnerships and networks with government, NGOs and other stakeholders.
• Promote innovation, knowledge management and capacity building within the team.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master) in public health, sanitary engineering, social sciences, behavior‑change communication or a related technical field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in WASH programmes for developing countries.
• At least one year of deployment in a developing country and a three‑month humanitarian deployment (UN, government or INGO).

Required skills

• Rural water supply design, safety and sustainability.
• Rural sanitation implementation, including CATS principles.
• Urban sanitation planning and sustainability.
• Handwashing with soap promotion.
• WASH‑in‑Schools and health‑centre interventions.
• Menstrual hygiene management.
• Knowledge of national government WASH policies, plans and strategies.
• Analysis of national WASH data and monitoring indicators.
