Field Mechanic – Service Technician for Fleet & Drilling Equipment

About the role

The Field Service Technician is a mechanic who troubleshoots and repairs a variety of fleet vehicles—including pickups, semis and heavy equipment—as well as water‑well construction gear, drilling rigs and pump installation units. The position requires regular travel to job sites, sometimes up to two weeks away.

Key responsibilities

• Service trucks and equipment to meet field requirements.
• Operate tools and equipment for both shop and on‑site repairs.
• Work collaboratively with a team to prioritize and process repair work orders.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical assemblies and hydraulic systems.
• Rebuild, replace or repair drill‑rig parts and ancillary equipment.
• Provide cost estimates and recommend repair solutions.
• Assist in shop fabrication, assembly operations and parts requisition.
• Maintain compliance with transportation and safety regulations.
• Keep shop, tools and equipment in safe operating condition.
• Document accurate payroll and travel information.

Required profile

• High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
• Valid Class B CDL and FMCSA qualification for annual DOT inspections.
• Minimum 1 year of travel mechanic experience.
• Ability to work irregular hours and respond to after‑hours emergencies.
• Physical ability to lift/move up to 50 lb regularly.

• Forklift, crane and welding certifications (preferred).
